How to clip your dog's nails
Keeping your dog's nails short is very important to their comfort. Do you know how to do it?
Here are some pointers:
- Use sharp nail clippers so you don't squash the nail - Look at your dog's nails in the light. See the pink bit? That's the blood vessel and the nerve, and you don't want to cut into them - Cut in front of the quick at a 45 degree angle. If you're not quite sure (or your dog has dark nails), it's better to cut less than more - Don't forget to trim the dew claws - If you do accidentally cut into the quick, use a styptic powder to stop the bleeding - Reward your dog and make it a positive experience for them
That's it! With a bit of practise you'll be a pro in no time.
But if you'd prefer not to do it yourself, or your dog is less than cooperative: Fetch A Vet offers free nail clips with all consults
